@mytvcebu: WATCH: A dead pig suspected by its handlers to have died from African swine fever (ASF) was dragged to a makeshift burial area in the upland portion of Barangay Toong, Cebu City, on Friday, September 18, 2026. Hog caretaker Dennis Sabal said it was the 26th adult pig they had buried this year. Only five of their 15 piglets and one of their 27 adult pigs remain alive. Sabal said the family suspects ASF based on symptoms they observed, including loss of appetite, vomiting and unusual bruising on the pigs’ bodies. There is no confirmation yet from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) that the pigs died from ASF. The family suspects the disease because of the number of pigs that have died at their piggery. Biologically, ASF cannot infect humans because the African Swine Fever virus is adapted to infect pig cells not human. However pigs that died from ASF are usually buried because the virus spreads easily among pigs and meat from diseased animals is not supposed to enter the food supply
