To the commenters, even if it never ever affects your houses pipes, it makes big clogs (fatbergs) downstream that causes your water company big issues, they have to spend money to fix, then they put the prices of water up because they’re spending more and not making as much profit and then you end up paying for it that way

My husband empties it into a weird gross old pasta jar and it all hardens and shows layers and freaks me out. But saves the drains 👌

ugh, im saving for a plumber because i cant use my kitchen sink/dishwasher now from doing this 😭 i e tried EVERY diy possible but the blockage is past even where my snake can reach so now i need a professional. i wash my dishes in the bathtub now and bought an extra grease trap for the tub. my back hurts and my budget says i wont be able to afford the plumber until about January 😭😭😭

The previous owners om my house was putting oil down the drain. Had to get a plumber out to fix it. $400 dollarydoos later to clear it out 🥲

I always let it cool and scrape it into the bin before I wash them. It doesnt take much. Our drains are crap as it is and I dont want them getting worse.

Yeah, I think the previous owners of our house did that (judging by the way they failed to maintain every other aspect of the house and garden). So is rodding the pipes from the drainpipe the thing to do to get the fatberg out?

Put some aluminium foil in your sink and push it down in to the alcove of the drain, pour the grease / fat in that aluminium and leave to solidify. Then scrunch up and from in the bin

I also thought that mixing it with washing up liquid would mean it would stay emulsified at least until it got to a part of the drainage system where it was no longer my problem.

I use paper towels to soak it up and then, WITH tongs (I've already burned myself 😅), I'll put them on a plate to cool a bit, and then in the garbage they go

The last tenants in my new flat did this! The first time we ran the dishwasher it backed up with the most foul smelling greasy dirty water. The agency got the drain specialists out to clear the worst of it, but 2 metres of pipe need replacing under the floors. Agency is refusing to do that 😭

I have seen the results further down the system. Usually because there is shit in the river because the sewer is blocked. Also had a neighbour who did this and never noticed the fact they had flooded everyone else's yards with sewage.

I cut the tops of 2l bottles to fill then when they’re quite full I cover the top with film and chuck it in the bin

Yeah. I don’t save the grease for cooking (no shame for those that do I just personally don’t), but I put a paper towel in it while hot and liquid and when I cools and solidifies, it goes in the garbage. I don’t want a plumbing bill.
