The poor pays twice. This happened to me this week exactly the same situation, rejected my quote then hired me to fix the cheaper guys work. I know it’s hard to judge someone’s work before they have done it but if someone’s quote is well below the rest there is a good reason for that.

could it be that the owner didn't go for the cheapest price and just got a dodgy tradie... I mean , what are the odds. Hiring tradies or even taking your car to a mechanic is a leap of faith these days. You could pay through the nose for a job and still be ripped off. You seem like a good tradie, love your content, but, in my experience, finding a good, honest tradie, is like finding a diamond in the rough.

What you have to remember Glen is sometime the client lies. You’ll probably find the other painter told them exactly what they would do for the money and that what they wanted at the time.
