Respect Bandi, you are right that past win rate doesn't guarantee future — markets are forward looking. But backtesting isn't for predicting profit, it's for training your eye. I backtest H4 CAT not to get a % but to see where London actually takes liquidity before the real move. You can't recognize it live if you never studied it in history. Backtest to learn, forward test to confirm. 📚

is good to know both,but if you lack TA then you will always hitting sl before the real move begin.For me use the fundamentals to know what type of trend am going to see in the market because the strategy that works on ranging market will never work on trending market,fundamentals tells us which trend we are going to see in the fx,metals or indices

Saying backtesting is useless because market conditions change misses the point😂 Yes, inflation rates, liquidity and volatility change but our strategy isn’t based on those things. It’s based on recurring market behaviour: higher highs/lows, liquidity, volume, displacement, imbalances and timing. Those behaviours don’t disappear just because the macro environment changes.Backtesting isn’t about assuming the future will copy the past. It’s about testing whether a strategy has a repeatable statistical edge across different conditions. If it only works in one environment, proper backtesting will expose that.

i have a question though. You're right for the most part, but the same issue applies to fundamental strategies that rely on forecasting and market expectations, they can also fail when the underlying regime changes. Most traders don't have the skills to backtest effectively; backtesting through bar replay or charting is extremely useless because it lacks rigorous statistical modelling, and a chart by itself can't objectively define a market regime. However, systematic out-of-sample testing isn't invalidated by regime change. So my question is are you saying backtesting us inherently unreliable simply because future regimes can differ from historical ones, or can properly designed out-of-sample, walk-forward, Monte Carlo, and Markov/regime-based testing provide meaningful evidence that a strategy's edge is robust rather than merely the result of overfitting? Fundamentals are extremely useful for investing, but for trading, empirical validation is fundamental. A seniors quant researcher isn't going to approve a model purely because it makes intuitive fundamental (macro) sense! the model needs statistical evidence that the signal and its alpha remain robust. Classifying backtesting as useless disgards the statistical science of probabilities as a whole because randomness can be modelled. but i mostly agree with your distinction though.... everyone feels the heat during regime changes.
