@daangusmckenzie: BONTEHEUWEL TAKES A STAND AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE Today, once again, Bonteheuwel made us proud. Hundreds of community members came out in solidarity with the women whose lives have been lost to gender-based violence in Kempton Park, but more importantly, they came out to take a stand against gender-based violence wherever it happens including behind the closed doors of our own homes here in Bonteheuwel. Today was about more than a march. It was more than a protest. Today was a call to action. A call for every resident, every family, every community leader and every institution to stand together and say enough is enough. We will not remain silent while women and children live in fear. We will not protect perpetrators. We will not look the other way. And we will not allow gender-based violence to become normalised in our community. Bonteheuwel has shown the country that when our community stands together, we are powerful. We have confronted gang violence. We have refused to surrender our streets, our homes and our children's futures. Now, we will confront gender-based violence with that same determination. Bonteheuwel will stand. Bonteheuwel will speak. Bonteheuwel will act. And Bonteheuwel will win this fight. Today, we sent a message. Tomorrow, the real work begins.
