My money feels easy and organised because it’s all got a place. Instead of having one account (eg an everyday account) and trying to mentally track everything, I’ve split my money based on purpose. This is what goes where each week: • Groceries: $50 • Pets: $35 • Miscellaneous: $50 • Car: $60 • Extra KS: $298.92 (bit messy atm as I’m trying to build back my emergency fund and increase KS and put some into savings). $50 gets automatically transferred from here into my Blossom investment each week as well. Everything else I need to spend stays in my everyday account (rent, gym, giving) because these just get taken out automatically. I could’ve micromanaged my money into more accounts, but I didn’t really see the point in having a separate account for rent/gym/giving. As long as the money is in my main account then I’m good when these payments are made (& the money is always ready in the account). Once I split my money in a way that worked for me, my spending became really simple. If the money is in that account, then I can spend it. If it’s not, I need to wait. I don’t need to move money around because these amounts build up over time when I don’t spend the full allocated amount (which is most weeks), hence why I have $26 in my grocery account AFTER buying my groceries for the week, and why I’ve got $270 in my misc account — because some weeks I just don’t spend much on things/experiences (which isn’t to say I have a boring life, I just have a lot of free/low cost hobbies and friends/family who enjoy the same) I’ve got just enough flexibility this way that I stay on track with my goals, but I also know that if I want to go out with friends or buy a gift for a friend then I can. I also don’t feel guilty or stressed about my spending (which when you’re not making big bucks is all too real) because I’ve already decided what it’s for. If I was starting over, this would probably be the first thing I’d change. Not necessarily how much I’m spending, but just the way I structure it so that it’s clear and works for you. #savingmoney #moneyhabits #frugalliving #groceriesonabudget #nzmoney
