@gamewatcherssafaris: #WorldWaterMonitoringDay Today, on 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we’re taking another look at something that doesn’t exactly scream “𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧”, the 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. Earlier this year, we shared a BTS video showing how our bucket showers work. The bit where a member of our team carried a bucket up to a guest tent… well, let’s just say the internet had thoughts: “𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟.” “𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬.” “𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞.” “𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲.” We understand why the video raised questions. But it also showed just one small part of a much bigger water-conservation system. Across Gamewatchers Safaris and Porini Camps, water is treated as a resource to be managed carefully. Many of our camps operate in remote, dry areas where water is limited and has to be sourced, transported, stored and used thoughtfully. And yes, that bucket is doing some serious work. At camp, around 𝟐𝟎 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 and taken to the tent.  It's poured into a canvas bucket and then raised above the shower so gravity does the plumbing. No complicated machinery. No fancy gadgets. Just physics doing its thing. Then: 🚿 Rinse. 🧼 Water off while you soap. 🚿 Water back on to rinse. Simple, measured and designed to keep unnecessary water use to a minimum. Because the water we save isn’t just about the guest experience. It is part of a shared landscape where water matters to communities, livestock, wildlife and the wider ecosystem. And that’s why this year’s World Water Monitoring Day theme, “𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫,” with the slogan “𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬, 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬,” is particularly relevant. How we manage water affects the people and landscapes that share it with wildlife. So, that bucket hanging above a safari tent? It may look like the least glamorous shower system on Instagram.
