Pain is also a perception and can be different for each person. My childbirth was extremely painful even with meds, but my SIL gave birth to twins without feeling any pain (no meds).

I like this. I do want to add that not all women can experience childbirth and not all people who experience pregancy and/or childbirth identify as women.

Girlfriend, it fucking hurts lol. I’ve birthed two babies totally unmedicated, one on pitocin, and I’m big on feminist theology but yeah…it hurts a lot. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing though and I feel like superwoman holding my newborn afterwards.

As a youth I used to joke that the pain that was mentioned was meant to be the emotional “🙄” pain of getting your period because that’s all I’d experienced 😂

My parents (both pastors) have told two different narratives about the Dr who delivered my sister and I. Mom called him “almost like having a midwife” because she wasn’t pressured into an epidural or other interventions. Dad thinks that Dr was a conservative enough Christian that he believed that birth *should* be painful. (Maybe even redemptive suffering-ly)

My mother has interpreted the curse not as something God wants to happen, but as something that will happen as a result of sin. So the “you have to be in pain the entire time or you’re sinning” never sat right with me. She also believes that the pain in the curse is things like infertility, miscarriages, etc. Something not really in our human control.

My girl was born with one surprise contraction while I was doing laundry. No pain and incredibly easy. I was baffled how many people reacted negatively to that - asserting that because I hadn't suffered I hadn't had the real experience of giving birth or accusing me of claiming to be better than other women because of how easy it was for me.

I read Christ-Centered Birth before my 2nd kid and it gave me such good info to be ready for every step. And it wasn’t even that religious of a book from what I remember.

I definitely remember being taught that childbirth was cursed to be painful because of Eve’s original sin and I honestly can’t remember a time that I wasn’t terrified of the pain of childbirth. As someone who has a condition that leads me to pass out when it’s all over and I’m coming down from the extreme anxiety (ex. about pain of blood draws, warts frozen off, etc.), being mentally prepared has completely changed everything and helps me avoid that blood pressure plummet completely.

I had two unmedicated births: the pain is real. And I did Hypnobirthing and meditated on having a painless delivery, but it’s still intense. It don’t know that it’s the worst EVER, because there are breaks in between contractions, and as soon as the baby is born the pain is gone. I will say when it was all over I thought “I just did that; I’m a total badass.”

“That women can do and men cannot” you have regularly protected trans people on this channel. There are plenty of transmen who give birth. Please be aware of your words. Otherwise great video and 💯 agree that it is toxic theology to think birthing bodies must be harmed and cursed by God.
