We want peace!” As soldiers of the Joint Task Force (OP MAIDA BUURI) moved through the streets of Bawku during a Territorial Control Operation, groups of school children waved enthusiastically and chanted those words in unison. It lasted only a few moments, yet it captured the hopes of an entire community. Children have a remarkable way of expressing what many adults feel but seldom say aloud. On that morning, their voices spoke for families longing to live in peace. Peace does not return after conflict by chance. It is built through patience, commitment and the collective efforts of many people. As part of those efforts, the Joint Task Force conducted a Territorial Control Operation; a coordinated security activity designed to protect the communities in Bawku, reassure its residents and help create the conditions for normal life to continue. The operation included street patrols, confidence patrols and show of force operations across communities within the Bawku General Area. By Northern Command Public Relations Detachment.
