@claudiachenderns: Despite this government’s constant announcements about fixing health care, emergency room wait times have increased nearly 40% since 2021—and Nova Scotians are feeling it. More than five years into a mandate to fix healthcare, this government still doesn’t have a clear action plan to keep emergency departments open and wait times down with real targets and metrics for success.

I sat last week for 30+ hours before my son was seen. Some were there 40 hours. Not enough chairs for the sick causing people to have to stand or lay on the floor if they couldnt.

Nova Scotia has enough nurses and doctors but they don’t want to hire the staff and everyday short staff in every facility or hospital. Only they are getting the staff from agencies, those are expensive , however nobody os working to hiring enough staff.

I waited at cobquid yesterday from 10am to 430, just to get a pee test to confirm my kidney infection that I was there for 3 weeks ago (that I had to wait 8 hours before being seen in the worst pain if ever been in) was gone. I'm still waiting for my Follow-Up appointment with my Family dr that they couldn't get me in until the beginning of October.

I always not go. I never get taken seriously anyway. I live with chronic pain. Extreme symptoms that appear hormonal and out of control. And drs never ever ever take me seriously. I feel like I am insane.

I required emergency gallbladder removal surgery and was left in a chair of a secondary waiting room then told to go home and come back later when they call me 💀

Yet I’m a nursing student and set to graduate in December and there are no postings for nurses on Nova Scotia health.

Last time I was in the ER people were there for, a bruise, a headache while feeling tired. Lots of the wait times are made longer by people not understanding what the E in ER stands for

I waited 12 hours in the ER for severe pelvic pain I couldn't sit or stand and abnormal vaginal bleeding. I was bleeding for several weeks straight (my longest stretch is 421 days) and it was so bad I couldn't leave my house. People who came after me for sprains, prescriptions, colds, got seen hours before me. When I inquired about my priority level, I was told that cramps with vaginal bleeding is normal and was not a priority. I have not had a regular cycle since getting pregnant almost 9 years ago. I have experienced very little care in Nova Scotia for these issues and my hormonal imbalance. Once I got seen at 1am, they told me I need an ultrasound and to come back in the morning because there was nothing they could do. I got there at 1pm the day prior, no testing done then, just waiting. Turns out, there are several spots on my uterus and I am now waiting for Gynecology to get them biopsied. My "period cramps" could be something much more severe. If only I had been taken seriously years ago when I started having these issues.

The Directors of these hospitals that are always closed need to be held accountable.

My uncle was able to drive from the city to the valley before the ambulance actually arrived at my 90 year old grandmother’s home after a 911 call. This is unacceptable

The population is increasing yet health care, infrastructure, housing remains the same. The government wants to grow the province but what they’re doing is not working. Life is getting harder for everyone not better.

Then explain how when I had surgery incisions open (I had a rectocele prolapse repaired 10 days prior) and I was gushing blood....why tf was I put at a triage level of 3 when I should have been at a level much higher, if not at a priority level. I had to sit in a wheelchair, while actively bleeding, rapidly passing blood clots the size of a clemintine to the size of my fist, and going into shock... but not one nurse gave a shit and said I'd be fine. I was within less than an hour of going into hypovolemic shock (according to the doctor at the IWK)... that's when you've lost too much blood and your organs are preparing to shut down because the body isn't pumping enough blood to keep them functioning. When the QE2 emergency doc couldn't stop my bleeding after an hour I was referred to the women's center at the IWK... which my husband had to make the 5 minute drive with me or I'd have to wait an hour or longer to be transferred. NS health care is beyond atrocious. It's scary as hell.

For every person I have talked to who moved here from Ontario I have told them they are will have a better chance of driving back to Ontario and going to a hospital up there before you even get to be registered and see a doctor here. I once waited 18 hours to be seen

Had this same experience. Went to a hospital due to pain from pregnancy. Waited 12 hours only to be told they didn’t have an ultrasound. Refereed me to another hospital who was supposed to call me and never did. Went to another hospital that made me wait 8 hours. Did a ct and said they saw a mass and didn’t know what it was and to go home and take Tylenol for the pain. I ended up going to Ontario to go to a hospital to discover I was having an ectopic pregnancy and if I had gone it would have ruptured

if they literally did "nothing", and just sent you home...it means you didn't need to go in the first place.
