@krishnachaytanya: Load balancing is how a system decides which server gets your next request, and the algorithm it picks is the whole story. Round robin just counts: 1, 2, 3, 4, back to 1. It never checks what a server is already doing. So the moment one request is slow, that server keeps getting handed more work while the one beside it sits nearly empty, until it has nothing left to give and starts rejecting requests. Least connections checks the queues first and sends each request to the shortest one. Same 86 requests, same 4 servers. 4 requests dropped before the switch, 0 after, and the queues finish dead level at 4 each. nginx, haproxy, envoy and aws elb all ship both. Most people never change the default. #systemdesign #softwarearchitecture #productionready #loadbalancing #nginx
