For those of us out here willing to be at least somewhat adaptable in our approach to politics and who are paying attention to what's happening globally, Carney is setting a very high bar for standards moving forward. I do have some very big concerns about a few things under our current administration, (Indigenous rights and ecological expediency being prioritized over, ecological preservation, among other things) but I also see the leviathan to the south of us being willing to burn it all down so they can make a few extra dollars before they crash.. and can fully appreciate needing someone like Carney to put us firmly into some strong alliances to offset as much chaos as possible. He's smart as hell, and clever, too.. he's a charming, crafty bastard. And I've really come to appreciate his ability to think big and make moves that are clearly well thought out.
Pierre Poilievre could never. He's completely outclassed. Right here, right now, with everything that is being demanded of Canadian leadership, Poilievre doesn't have a hope in hell of measuring up.

Hopefully we are no longer the same nation that scrapped the Avro Arrow which lead to a brain drain to the US, or the scrapping of the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure with no replacement at the time.

Carney have moved Canada into a more sovereign state by forcing everybody to 'grow up', grow an independent spine. Have some courage, take more risks. But it is still not fully sovereign. That require Canada become a republic, elect a Canadian citizen to be head of state, be the president. Like Latin America. Even like tiny Peru.

The world is much bigger than just North America. Our trade partners, do not need to be limited to the US, simply due to location. When your closest ally becomes the enemy, it is time to expand and seek relationships elsewhere.

I think we started to hate the American exceptionalism to the point where we didn’t want to replicate that here. But we do have a lot to be proud of & a lot we need to reconcile because we haven’t been perfect. We need to realize we have a lot to offer but also be humble to know we can always be better.

In my opinion I think the majority of Canadians feel we need to expand our horizons. It was too easy to fall into the "just trade with the US " mode. We were complacent.
Trump has taught us that being complacent is detrimental to our country.
As a senior and also an immigrant from Europe (decades ago) I like the idea of forming an alliance with the EU.

I was impressed with everything Carney has been doing. We have many designs and ideas for inventions on the drawing board in universities, but never get to market because our banks give the least venture capital to finance these ideas and projects. Being an historian myself, you spouted the facts about our greatness during and after WWII, That entrepreneurial spirit we had left and went to US in the early 1930's. An example the movie industry. Prominent studios had Canadians involved in the leadership. Max Sennet, owned a silent film company. MGM, Louis B. Mayer is the last M in that title. Warner Brothers Productions. The Warners are from London, Ontario. They left because probably couldn't get funding. IMAX is a Canadian idea that got funding, but so many don't. If we had backed our own oil companies to drill and explore and continue to build our own refineries. our people would be the richest citizens in the world. Just like Seattle and NASA were beneficiaries of Canadian avionics engineering from the cow towing government who destroyed the Avro Arrow project. Boeing would be ours.
