I had a stroke post brain surgery in 2018. I was only 26. My Grandfather (a former Southern Baptist traveling preacher) told me when I let my family know what happened, “well maybe it’s just Gods way of punishing you for straying too far. He wanted to ground you.” I haven’t believed in His version of God since.

This type of religious indoctrination is weird. Like are these pastors suggesting that those who don't recover meraculously aren't faithful enough? Are they not worshipping hard enough? Isn't that harmful to religion when only some are helped and the majority are ignored.

I used to work at a nursing home where a few different churches came in on the weekends. A new one came in and said, "God is a healer! Believe and you would be healed! Next time we come in, we don't want to see so many wheelchairs!" I told them not to come back. My boss agreed.

Growing up in the south, in an Assemblies of God (pentacostal as well) denomination church, many sermons were just like this, people "miraculously" healed, faith cures or fixes everything to these people

I have a friend who was told her T1 diabetes would be cured if she just threw away her insulin and truly believed. Thankfully my friend knew better but how many people die because of these types of advice.
