@healingwithemilyg: Replying to @hanijab567 Just woke up and had to reply to this comment because I’ve gotten a few like this. The good things you remember are part of the exact same cycle, with the exact same person who abused you. #narcissisticrelationship #narcissisticabuse #emotionalabuse #narcissisticabuserecovery #HealingJourney
and part of what makes it so hard is that it’s SO difficult to cognitively synthesize the dr. jekyll and mr. hyde. the idealization and the abuse are so different that your brain naturally separates the two

this is the part nobody wants to hear. the good times weren't separate from the abuse they were what made you stay through it. that's not a flaw in you that's how cycles work

Idealization is dehumanizing but so intoxicating too. They use the exact same words and playbook for every victim. It’s the down payment for their true personality and the abuse to come. When you start catching on they bring back all that perfect love bs temporarily.

He can brew you the most delicious soup, but if he plops in even the tiniest turd, the whole pot is ruined.

The cycle never stops. My old mental health counselor taught me about the abuse cycle and the stages that keep repeating.

the chemistry was real but it wasnt accidental. they study you first. they mirror you. they reflect back exactly what your nervous system has been starving for. and thats why the withdrawal hits so hard. because your body bonded to the feeling of finally being seen. not to the person who was performing it

The guy I was seeing 5 yrs ago was 20 yrs younger than me and he still groomed me like a dad: all the touching my chin and stroking my hair and head and asking what I ate that day. It was all to manipulate me and it worked. Lost my dad at 23 with 3 months’ warning only. When I met the guy I was 50 and he was 30 and he’s a serial abuser of women. A sex addict and an alcoholic and drug addict and gang member and criminal. Had the best time with him and the worst. Hurt me more than anyone maybe but I also learned the most. Learned all about my childhood attachment issues in real time. Listened to the audiobook by Janina fisher about parts work and it helped a lot and solved the puzzle of my psyche basically. It still took years to practice though. 🎧🤍HEALING THE FRAGMENTED SELVES OF TRAUMA SURVIVORS: OVERCOMING INTERNAL SELF-ALIENATION. The narrator is annoying but it’s worth it.

I agree, I’m 4 years now just giving them silent treatment cut them off when they broke up with me to get out of responsibility/ accountability/remorse… goes from them trying to be sober and loving.. then less than a week he started hanging with a enabler and started trying to be confrontational with me for me to be the reason to relapse.. I’ve cut them off no mater how hard … because I know him trying to be sorry him trying to be loving I’m affirming to myself is just part of the cycle… this video is just confirmation it’s a cycle and I’ll do anything to not be at the end of the cycle ever again… I’m unrecognisable to this version of myself but I know choosing myself and rebuilding all I have lost is more important to me

Needed this one today! I love the analogy of if you put a frog in boiling water - it would just jump out. But if you start with nice warm water and slowly turn up the heat it’ll hardly notice

This!!! My therapist told me this and it fixed my brain — I was like he was so great sometimes and she was like, yeah you’re not crazy that’s why you stayed and that’s part of the abuse 🙃

the good times are the reason she stayed so long because they proved the person she fell in love with was real and if that person was real then the bad times must have been her fault and thats the trap that keeps the cycle spinning

For every ugly moment there was a beautiful one, that’s how abuse works and that’s why it’s so hard to leave.
