Family/Friends: Their pain is not an attack. Your remorse is not their cure. Change takes time to show. Trust cannot be forced. This is precisely where many people fail in recovery. You're clean yourself and want everyone to be on good terms with you immediately. But family and friends need much longer to regain trust. And that's okay. 🌹🫶❤️

Growth is realizing that being sorry doesn’t erase what someone else had to go through. Real change is shown slowly, consistently, and with enough patience to let trust rebuild in its own time. 🩷🖤

I’m sure that just as you need to learn to trust people to not hurt you, others need to learn to trust that you are no longer the person you once were! It’s a learning process for everyone. Your sobriety , your lifestyle , and now your current actions will determine who will trust you, and when! There might be some who might not be able to, ever. As I write this, I’m sad that I will never be able to trust my bi-polar , violent, alcoholic son ever again; too many years of abuse from him; the reincarnation of my bi-polar alcoholic father! So trust and forgiveness are not always a given!
