@coolopolis: HOW TO BECOME A BILLIONAIRE IN QUEBEC. Quebec actually has a system for this. Build a company. Get good at it. And get Quebec money behind you. Because Quebec picks winners. And puts serious money behind them. La Caisse. The Fonds de solidarité. Investissement Québec. Desjardins. And we're talking serious money. La Caisse manages roughly HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS. About $93 BILLION of it is invested in Quebec. Look at what this system produced. Couche-Tard. Dollarama. CGI. Lightspeed. FLO. Louis Tremblay started FLO, the electric-car charging company, in Quebec City. In 2016— the Caisse and Investissement Québec put $12.8 million into it. In 2024— FLO raised another $136 million. Then there's Sonder. Francis Davidson started it while he was a McGill student. It became a billion-dollar company. Quebec offered a $30-million loan toward a $182-million Montreal expansion. Davidson later sold more than $19 million worth of shares. Then Sonder collapsed. Bankrupt. That's venture capitalism. Some bets go bad. You need the big ones to pay. Lightspeed? The Caisse helped lead an $80-million investment. The Fonds de solidarité has more than $21 billion in assets— and works with more than 4,600 companies. So Quebec has billions and billions— specifically looking for Quebec businesses to back. And occasionally— you get Alain Bouchard. He started with one convenience store. Couche-Tard now has roughly 17,000 stores— in about 30 countries and territories. Annual revenue? Around US$70 BILLION. That's what picking a winner can look like. And I learned a tiny version of this myself. I grew up English in Montreal. I figured English people would help me get rich. Instead, I bought a 40-unit apartment building in Verdun with practically no money— helped by a francophone realtor, a francophone owner who financed me, and Desjardins, which gave me the mortgage. The people I once thought were the enemy made the deal possible. That's the Quebec secret. Get good. Get into the system. Convince them you're a winner. Because Quebec picks winners— and puts Quebec money behind them. #business #wealth #Montreal #quebec #canada

Coolopolis :
Vancouver retail analyst David Ian Gray, a brilliant mind, was talking to me yesterday about how Quebec pushes into international markets more than other provinces do. That's what got me thinking about all this.

I know of a construction family who had $250M lying around (in cash) that they never paid taxes on. The government forgave them if they kept their money in Quebec and backed a Caisse Populaire.

That's the realist thing ever and real positive. Smart people think this way instead of always making excuses of where you are..etc... and pointing the finger at what doesn't work...
