Couche-Tard now has roughly 17,000 stores— in about 30 countries and territories. Annual revenue? Around US$70 BILLION. That's what picking a winner can look like. And I learned a tiny version of this myself. I grew up English in Montreal. I figured English people would help me get rich. Instead, I bought a 40-unit apartment building in Verdun with practically no money— helped by a francophone realtor, a francophone owner who financed me, and Desjardins, which gave me the mortgage.
