Sitaad and Nabi Amaan: Echoes of Devotion in Somali Sufi Tradition Deeply rooted in Somalia’s rich Sufi heritage, Sitaad and Nabi Amaan are revered genres of religious poetry and chants that serve as spiritual expressions of love, reverence, and emulation for key figures in Islam, most notably the Prophet Muhammad. These devotional forms are more than mere performances ,they are acts of worship that blend poetic praise with a longing for spiritual closeness. The term Sitaad is derived from the Arabic word Sayidat meaning “Mistresses” or “Noble Women” and refers specifically to revered women in early Islamic history, such as Fatima bint Muhammad , Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA) and Hawa (Eve). In Somali tradition, Sitaad is a uniquely female led spiritual practice, performed exclusively by women in communal gatherings that combine chanting, drumming, and rhythmic hand movement giving it a flow similar to that of buraanbur but with out the dancing . Nabi Amaan, on the other hand, translates to “Praises of the Prophet” and is a broader form of devotional poetry practiced by both men and women. These praises often take the form of lyrical odes that exalt the Prophet Muhammad’s character, actions, and spiritual significance, drawing from centuries old Sufi influence that permeates Somali religious and cultural life. Together, Sitaad and Nabi Amaan highlight the deep intertwining of spirituality, poetry, and gendered religious expression in Somalia, where Sufi traditions continue to shape community identity and devotion. (Af-Somali🇸🇴🇩🇯) Sitaad iyo Nabi Amaan waa suugaan diineed iyo maanso ruuxi ah oo ku dhex lammaan dhaxalka Suufinimo ee qaniga ah ee Soomaaliya. Labadan nooc waa muuqaallo cibaado oo muujinaya jacayl, ixtiraam iyo ku dayasho kuwa Islaamka ku mudan, gaar ahaan Nabi Muxammad (SCW). Mana aha oo keliya bandhigyo ,waa camallo cibaadaysi ah oo isku dara ammaan maansaysan iyo doonista in ruux ahaan loo dhawaan karo diin jecel. Ereyga Sitaad wuxuu ka soo jeedaa erayga Carabiga ah Sayidaat oo micnihiisu yahay “Marwooyin” ama “Haween Sharaf Leh,” waxaana lagu tilmaamaa haweenkii mudnaa ee taariikhda Islaamka, sida Faadumo bint Muxammad, Khadiija bint Khuwaylid (RC) iyo Xaawa. Dhaqanka Soomaaliyeed, Sitaad waa cibaado haween u gaar ah oo ay kaliya dumarku hoggaamiyaan, laguna qabto isku keen haween oo lagu daro gabay ,hooris iyo durbaan, taas oo u eg socodka buraanburka balse aan lahayn ciyaarta boodinta. Nabi Amaan, dhanka kale, wuxuu turjumayaa “Ammaanada Nabi Muxammad,” waana nooc suugaan diineed oo ballaaran oo ay labaduba rag iyo dumar sameeyaan. Ammaanadani waa gabayo oo lagu faafinayo akhlaaqda, camalka, iyo qaayaha ruuxiga ah ee Nabi Muxammad (SCW), iyagoo ka soo maaxda saameyn suufinimo oo qarniyo badan ku dhex jirtay diinta iyo dhaqanka Soomaaliyeed. Isku wada jira, Sitaad iyo Nabi Amaan waxay muujinayaan sida qotada dheer ee ay u isugu xidhan yihiin ruuxiga, suugaanta, iyo muujinta diimeed ee rag iyo dumar kala leh bulshada Soomaaliyeed iyadoo dhaqammada Suufiyadu weli qaabeeyaan aqoonsiga bulshada iyo cibaadadooda. #somalitiktok #eastafrica #somali #islam
