So, according to this argument, Nigerians are the problem of South Africa? 🤔 Let’s pause and ask a simple question: where is the evidence that Nigerians are responsible for South Africa’s crime problem? South Africa had a population of about 62 million people in the 2022 Census, while the entire international-migrant population was about 2.4 million less than 4% of the population. And Stats SA says the majority of those migrants came from the SADC region, with Zimbabwe and Mozambique among the largest source countries. So when someone says, “Nigerians are the problem,” are we seriously suggesting that every crime happening across a country of 62 million people is being committed by Nigerians? 🤔 And another thing: a Nigerian living well in South Africa is not automatically a criminal. A person can arrive with savings, own a legitimate business, work, invest, earn money, or simply enjoy the results of years of hard work. Being successful is not evidence of being a criminal. If a Nigerian commits a crime, investigate that Nigerian and let the law take its course. If a South African commits a crime, the same law should apply. Even Stats SA's own victim-of-crime data document substantial crime affecting South African households and individuals generally. Crime has no nationality. Criminals do. So let's stop turning individual criminal cases into accusations against an entire nationality.
