Please Read: I know this is not what I normally post. My account is primarily to show what it’s like for me to play video games with Cerebral Palsy (a physical disability that affects my muscle control on my right side). However, the disability has had a large impact not only on my physical health but also on my mental health. Studies show that people with disabilities are significantly more likely than those without disabilities to report suicidal ideation, suicide planning, or suicide attempt. “A Silent Voice” is one of the few representations that I’ve seen in media accurately showcasing this. This is one of the many reasons I have my account: to encourage others who face similar challenges like me, that they aren’t alone in their struggles. Many hobbies, including video games, present challenges that can be overlooked a lot, and that can be really discouraging. Oftentimes, it can make disabled individuals feel like a burden to the world and those around them, and it makes them question their value. But to anyone who feels that way, just know that there are people who understand, including me. It’s hard, and you may not feel seen or heard, but please keep going. If not for anyone else, then at least for yourself. Prove the doubters wrong, find joy in the small victories, and live your life. Because even though you might not think so right now, your life has value, it’s worth living. #disability #suicideprevention #disabledgamer #suicidepreventionmonth #cerebralpalsy
