If you and your spouse qualified for the home using two incomes, what happens if suddenly there’s only one? The mortgage payment is still due. And now the surviving spouse may be trying to handle the mortgage, property taxes, insurance, utilities, kids, groceries, and every other expense—all while dealing with the loss of their spouse.
