GOVT INVESTING GH¢3BN TO END SHS CONGESTION, DOUBLE-TRACK SYSTEM - PREZ MAHAMA President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is investing GH¢3 billion in secondary education under the STAR-J project to address congestion in Senior High Schools (SHSs) and end the double-track system. Speaking at the commissioning of the E-Block at Paga in the Upper East Region, President Mahama said the government was determined to complete abandoned E-Block projects and expand infrastructure to create adequate space for students. President Mahama disclosed that the government had allocated funds in the 2026 budget to complete 30 abandoned E-Block projects across the country, with the Paga facility among those selected. He said the government would also construct 30 new E-Block schools under the STAR-J project, particularly in densely populated communities where demand for secondary education is high. He said the previous government had planned to accelerate the construction of 200 new E-Blocks to provide adequate space for students and prevent the introduction of the double-track system. However, according to President Mahama, the projects were abandoned when the subsequent government assumed office and fast-tracked the Free SHS programme without significantly expanding existing secondary school infrastructure.
