it's a common occurrence on subarus. I'm pretty sure every lube tech has done it once. they messed up when they made the Trans pan and oil pan the same size drain bolt

You can tell its the transmission drain plug because its on the transmission and not the engine

I’m gonna be honest, it really is on Subaru for tucking the real plug up in a skid plate and leaving the transmission one exposed + the same size / shape as the oil plug. Plus the spin on filter right above it. 😭

Ive seen many DIYers and lube techs alike drain Subaru transmissions. Dont feel to bad about it lol it happens.

Psa not all transmissions have a fill like the engines and you need to undo the fill plug on the side of the trans and fill it until it starts to spill out. (I’m autistic mechanic have a good day)

I did the same thing, but then filled it back up and drain the oil and filled to that to normal level and it was fine

I literally did the exact same thing with my Subaru 6 months ago. Doubled down and tried to fix it my self. I had to get my transmission worked on about a month ago.
