I mean, it’s the same country that had to be FORCED to criminalize the ownership of CSAM, and even then, many didn’t like it. There were quite a lot of protests against it that ended in a compromise whereby at least ‘fictional’ material would still be legal. Not saying this is only a problem in Japan, but the fact that it’s still one of the most overglazed countries is astonishing.

As someone who lives here, there are many good things about living in Japan but the majority are only on an economic level (healthcare, the pension system, you get the idea). However, being a woman? I have countless stories, from others and myself, about how genuinely rancid the society is towards women. Don’t even get me started on how it is to be an immigrant, and I can’t even speak for half of it because I’m not a racial minority which I can imagine is MARGINALLY worse.
