Raised by Irish parents and no means no. I raised my kids the same way and guess what...they are now fuctional adults that can stand on their own two feet. Parents need to be parents...Not best friends that give in to your child's every whim and demand

Gentle parenting sounds great in theory, but in reality, it just turns everyday rules into an exhausting 20-minute debate. Kids need clear boundaries, not a corporate negotiation every time they need to put their shoes on. it doesn’t prepare kids for the real world. A boss, a teacher, or a peer isn't going to spend half an hour validating their “big feelings” before setting a boundary. Over-explaining everything just sets them up for a massive reality check later in life!

Raised in USSR i concur. When my kid was asking why, response was “do it, now!”. He is thankful I wasn’t going into explaining or providing a trophy for every step he made

The problem isn't gentle parenting, it's that there's boundaries, which a lot of people who gentle parent think there isn't, or it's negotiable. Boundaries are boundaries, they're not moveable. You can have a big feeling about that, we can work through the feeling, but it doesn't change the boundary.

because Authoritative parenting is a better way to do it. supportive, clear, two way communication but still has firm boundaries that r discussed with child. People tried telling the gentle parenting community that there r better ways but they all jumped on the gentle parenting bandwagon because it was popular.
