August 15th was a big day for the Palisades. But I want to be careful about what we call it. The reopening of @palisadesvillage doesn’t mean we’re “back.” We’re not. There are still too many empty lots. Too many families trying to find their way home. Too many problems that still need real solutions. And… Something meaningful happened that day. Businesses reopened. Neighbors found each other. Kids ran into friends. A place that had been quiet for far too long felt alive again. And I think we have to make room for both. We can keep fighting for what still needs to change… and be grateful for every meaningful step forward. We can acknowledge what’s still broken… and celebrate what’s being rebuilt. One doesn’t erase the other. Maybe that’s true for more than the Palisades. Sometimes we become so focused on how far we still have to go that we miss the progress happening right in front of us. And sometimes hope doesn’t arrive as the big breakthrough we’ve been waiting for. Sometimes it looks surprisingly ordinary. A coffee with a neighbor. Kids getting ice cream. A familiar face across the street. A little piece of life returning. And after you’ve gone without those things… you realize how extraordinary the ordinary really is. Thank you to @rickcarusola and the entire Caruso team, the hundreds of people who made this reopening possible, and every founder and entrepreneur willing to invest in the future of this community. Most of all, thank you to the people of the Palisades for continuing to show up. There’s still a long road ahead. But days like this matter. So whatever you’re rebuilding in your own life… don’t wait until everything is fixed to recognize progress.
