@enchanteddrea2: Per Los Angeles District Attorney Bailee Rios faces life in prison with the possibility of parole if convicted as charged CHATSWORTH, Calif. – A 36-year-old driver was charged today with murder and driving under the influence after plowing into a Metro bus at a high rate of speed, killing two people and injuring five others in Chatsworth earlier this week. Bailee Lynn Rios (dob 3/30/90) of Simi Valley is charged in case 26SFCF01880 with two counts of murder, one felony count each of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving on a highway. On Sept. 15, at approximately 5 p.m., Rios was allegedly driving alone in an SUV at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road at the intersection of Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue, when she ran a red light and crashed into an in-service Metro bus carrying passengers. Two people were killed and at least five others were injured, two of which were critically injured. Rios was extricated from the SUV by Los Angeles firefighters and arrested at the scene. She was transported to the hospital for injuries. “First and foremost, my heart is with the families mourning the loss of their loved ones and everyone who was affected by this devastating crash,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “The defendant Bailee Lynn Rios allegedly made the choice to drive while impaired on the wrong side of the road through a red light well above the speed limit, which put the lives of those in her path in danger. The deadly and destructive consequences of her actions will be felt for years to come. My office will hold her accountable under the maximum penalty of the law which is life in prison.” Rios is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 18 in Department S of the San Fernando Courthouse. The People have requested that the Court set bail at $4.1 million. If convicted as charged Rios faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole. “This heartbreaking tragedy has devastated the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and affected everyone who was on that bus," said Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins. "Our deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families and all those who were injured. We are grateful to the first responders who rushed to the scene and to the law enforcement investigators and prosecutors working to establish the facts and pursue justice.” Deputy District Attorney Ryan Gould of the DUI Training and Prosecution Section is prosecuting the case and the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.
