I mean if white woodwork is your thing then go for it, but don’t use it by default without giving it some thought first! I’m gradually eliminating any white woodwork in my home (we’re about 80% there!). My tips are: 👉 use a darker colour than the walls for some contrast. Our hallway and landing is painted in @farrowandball Railings and the walls are Strong White. You don’t need to go this dark though, if you were using a warm taupe for example, you could use a slightly deeper shade on the woodwork. Brands like Little Greene use colour scales to make it easier to choose a tonal scheme. 👉 paint the woodwork the same colour as the walls. Not only does this make cutting in easier, it makes the ceiling look taller! We’ve done this in our living room (painted in Hicks Blue by @littlegreenepaintcompany) and in our bedroom (Vintage Vogue by @benjaminmooreuk). It gives a more modern look and perfect if you’re thinking of colour drenching the whole room. You can use eggshell paint for the woodwork, or some brands do all surface paints, so you can use the same all over (such as Little Greene Intelligent Emulsion and Farrow & Ball Dead Flat). 👉 go for a pop of colour! If you’re wallpapering then try picking out one of the colours from the pattern to tie everything together. I also saw Emily @houseofharnasz landing doors the other day which is some serious inspiration if you fancy some colourful woodwork (on Instagram)!
