Amazon laid off my BIL before Christmas years ago. He headed their Alexa department. He had a mortgage and two infants, which they knew. He couldn't get hired ANYWHERE until recently as a school bus driver. (AI replaced him.)

i’m 55 and a senior software engineer. i’m legitimately nervous that i’ll be laid off in the near future and NO ONE will want to hire a trans woman, especially one as old as me with the talent pool of talented tech workers being so vast. i just have to make it 10 more years and honestly that seems impossible

The issue is whether the so called tech jobs here is the core tech or non core like finance, HR, sales etc. Core tech jobs are still there but not many are capable of doing them.

7 months since I was laid off, I’ve done more than 50 apps and have gotten several interviews and a couple final rounds but haven’t been hired. You have to be the unicorn. And if you’re not, you better find some differentiators.

Why not to try in New Europe like Poland or Czech Republic? These countries are trying to build technological hubs, they are English friendly and very open to foreign investors.

It doesnt matter what you do for work. If its IT or delivering mail. The whole market is struggling financially. When companies "dont have money", people are not hired and layed off.
