still no match for homosapiens however. the Maori hunted the giant moa birds near extinction I think, which then led the extinction of these eagles as well. by the time Europeans arrived, the eco system had already taken a massive blow

So.... Moa stood like kiwi, not like ostriches. If you look at the skeleton of a moa that has been positioned like an ostrich you can see its neck vertebrae are positioned in a way that would 100% mean it had a broken neck. Also, te Hōkioi were not known to attack adults, but rather children or the elderly. They also didn't carry away their prey but ate it where they killed it.

Most birds can not carry their own weight, so I'm guessing the bigger they are the LESS likely they can carry more. They might be able to knock over or wound larger prey but never carry something off like a human
