Hah! I was flying on that day and I remember the confusion of looking around and seeing every single screen on “Recovery: Windows failed to start”. There was also a massive announcement screen that was on Snapchat for some reason

I worked as an IT intern that day. In my company there was two full time IT Engineer/Technician who were my boss at that time. In that time one of my boss was on holiday. I remember me and my intern colleague tried do plans to find it out how to recover from this. While my boss actually find the solution before the actual Crowdstrike announcment. That day was crazy in a plant where more than 750+ people work at. We had to run and coordinate coworkers and in the plant teach them how they can help us this issue. It was a busy day to be honest. But the plant more than 500 PCs were up and running after just 3 hours since the accident happened. I still find it crazy how my Boss found the issue so quickly. Now me and my Boss at the time are the two full time IT guys at my company and fair to say im really blessed to have him as my colleague.
Fair to say this issue changed my life for good. I learned a lot on that day.

I hope they adopted a "check, double check, check again. And a fourth time for good measure" policy after this because people most definitely lost their lives due to this 💔

lol ive been working in public libraries for over a decade now and ANYTIME the computers or internet crashes, we immediately start working on all the analog stuff we never have time to do because when the computers are on, the computer-necessary work takes priority. You can always tell when your local library has had a lengthy internet/computer outage when you go in and all the shelves look like a stockboy from Publix came through lol. so whenever this happened, if i WAS affected by it, it was just another day at work for me.

The root cause was a null pointer dereference. Simply put the computer was being told to go find data at a location in memory that didn't exist.
