@tanaamen: What’s the difference between PTSD and C-PTSD? Most people have heard of PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder. But C-PTSD, or complex PTSD, is talked about much less. PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) can develop after experiencing or witnessing trauma. It can show up as intrusive memories or flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, avoiding reminders of what happened, feeling emotionally numb, or constantly feeling like you need to be on guard. C-PTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder) is typically associated with trauma that is prolonged or repeated, particularly when someone feels trapped or unable to escape the situation. This can include childhood abuse or neglect, domestic violence, or other experiences where someone is repeatedly exposed to trauma over time. Someone with C-PTSD can experience many of the same symptoms as PTSD, along with additional challenges involving emotional regulation, relationships, and their sense of self. So while there can be a lot of overlap, one of the biggest distinctions is the nature and duration of the trauma and the additional symptoms that can come with C-PTSD. And an important reminder: this isn’t about one type of trauma being “worse” than another. Trauma affects every person differently, and experiencing trauma does not automatically mean you have PTSD or C-PTSD. Many of these symptoms can also overlap with other mental health conditions, which is why an accurate diagnosis matters. The good news is that trauma can be treated. Psychotherapy is commonly part of treatment, and approaches including CBT, EMDR, and other trauma-focused therapies may be helpful depending on the individual. If any of this feels familiar, talk with a qualified mental health professional. You can also visit @Amen Clinics to learn more about PTSD, emotional trauma, and their brain-based approach to diagnosis and treatment. ❤️ #PTSD #CPTSD #ComplexPTSD #Trauma #TraumaRecovery

its not that someone has it worse, its that cptsd is repeated trauma or events and ptsd is one event or traumatic event

Cptsd can be multiple smaller events with some bigger traumatic events here and there. Press is typically one big trauma such as a natural disaster.

How could everyone not have cptsd though? I can’t fathom a life where you don’t experience trauma repeatedly. I guess it depends on if the trauma affects you long term I’m not very knowledgeable on this stuff.

She’s not saying that one is worse she’s saying that one is harder to put back together. You can’t really see the pieces alluding to the fact that most people will CPTSD don’t really know where their PTSD came from what event caused it it’s a blur where as most people with ptsd know what caused their ptsd

PTSD is caused by a singular event e.i. car accident, animal attack, near death experience, etc. CPTSD is stemmed from ongoing trauma that often pair with several different kinds of traumatic events

Cptsd has been my cycle of living nightmares once season at a time but I have felt myself healing it. Slowly it’s getting easier to understand why I cycle into the patterns I do.

I think of it kinda like an egg. PSTD is like cracking the shell and the yolk and whites fall out, but you can still be placed into a new one or form. with CPTSD, its like scrambled eggs. Shell is cracked, the whites and yolk are mixed up sometimes with other ingredients and its hard to separate the egg from other ingredients. At least this is how I interpret it as someone with cptsd. It's something that I have been working through though :) Everyone has their own interpretations of certain things this is just mine
