@whyyoushouldgoto: and it’s almost fall color season 👀🍁 When I say Michigan is one of the most underrated states in the US, I get a lot of confused looks…but the way their jaws drop when I show them this hike! It will forever be my favorite hike in Michigan 🤗 📍Chapel Loop Trail Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula ~10.5 miles (more on that below), 775ft elevation, moderate Insider tips: 🥾This hike is LONG but there isn’t that much elevation gain considering the distance, so while some level of fitness is needed, it’s really not a hard or technical trail. AllTrails puts the trail at 10.5 miles, but every time I’ve done it, I’ve clocked in somewhere between 11-12 miles. Ignore the elevation on my watch - I took some mini detours (highly recommended)! 🚗Parking sucks here. There is a small lot with mayyybe 20 spots and it fills up super fast, so I’d recommend getting up early to snag a spot. I got there by 8:30 on a Sunday in late August and there were still some open spots, but the way out was a mess of people parking on the side of the road in with very little room to maneuver 🌊You’ll see a lot of little turn out paths along the main path. I HIGHLY recommend exploring them. They are (usually) there because they lead to an epic viewpoint of the shoreline. While you do still get plenty of good looks along the main trail, these are some of my favorite views and also provide great spots to sit down and have a snack/water break.
