I love Lan Wangji and regularly think about his 13 year development arc. This is also why I sometimes dislike the constant “everyday is everyday” thing. It’s funny and very LWJ, but some fans only think of him like that

He's just not very emotive, and visible emotions aren't the only thing that make a character interesting and full of personality. Lan Wangji is also hella autistic coded.

i know it’s not how the book is structured but i wish we could have gotten more insight into his thoughts 😔 like it’s such a fascinating concept for a character and i feel like we miss out on part of that

I can definitely tell that mxtx intended that to be the arc but the book devoted so little time to fleshing him out that I can't muster up any interest for him. If we'd have gotten some scenes from his perspective that would have been better. CQL and fanfiction make him a lot more compelling (IN MY OPINION!)

unpopular opinion, but I don’t find any problem with how we don’t get to “read minds” of mxtx tops, their actions speak louder than any words or thoughts. especially with lan zhan, even without explicit explanation, it’s still very easy to understand his character and witness his transformation upon meeting wwx, who basically made him question all of the beliefs and values that were being ingrained in him since childhood. Or rather, he questioned cultivation society that turned out to bunch of hypocrites, upholding to these beliefs only in appearance and as long as their status, power and authority are not threatened. Wangzi is hands down the king of critical thinking, loved how he never got swayed with the opinions of majority and always had a healthy view on wei ying’s actions, he knew that wwx was neither entirely correct nor wrong (but nevertheless, he was willing to face consequences together😩). Anyway, I get so sad when lan zhan’s character is reduced to “everyday is everyday” or an autistic dude who only says “en, mhm”.
