Are you overfunctioning because you have control issues, or because nobody else is stepping the fuck up? Because there’s a big difference. Some people take on everything because they struggle to trust others, feel anxious when things aren’t done their way, or have built their entire identity around being the responsible one. But other people are exhausted because they’ve spent years picking up the slack. They’re remembering everything, organizing everything, having the difficult conversations, and constantly following up on things that another grown adult should be perfectly capable of handling. And then they get told they need to stop being so controlling. Well, what happens when they stop? Does the other person actually take responsibility? Or does everything just fall apart? Here’s the thing. Both can be true. You can have your own shit to work through AND be dealing with someone who isn’t pulling their weight. But we need to stop assuming that the person doing everything is automatically the one who needs to change. Sometimes they need to learn to let go. Sometimes the other person needs to step the fuck up. And sometimes both things need to happen. Have you ever been called controlling when you were just trying to get shit done? ❤️🤟🏻🌿 #Overfunctioning #RelationshipDynamics #MentalLoad
