Environmental and civil rights groups have accused Elon Musk’s xAI of operating gas turbines near predominantly Black communities in Memphis without required air permits — pollution they say could contribute to asthma, other health problems and premature deaths. That is a serious allegation, and xAI denies wrongdoing. The company argues the turbines were temporary and did not require the permits the groups say were necessary.
