I’m 30 and I work on a college campus and frequently interact with 18-22 yr olds and yeah…cannot fathom seeing any of them as suitable romantic partners for someone in my stage of life. And they’re really not necessarily more attractive or more fit than people 5-10 years older. Chance meetings and exceptions happen, sure, but there’s just NO good reason someone my age would actively pursue one except literally just wanting a much younger partner

I feel like people who are super judgmental about age gaps between consenting adults are projecting their insecurities through their judgment. For older people they condemn it, because they fear their own mortality. Seeing their peers dating younger or older people can causes an internal struggle about fading youth, beauty and is a reminder as we age our options can become more narrow and highlight the things we feel we missed out on or are missing in life. Especially when it’s someone who you feel should be in your pool of options in terms of age.

I went out on a date with an 18 year old once, she lied about her age saying she was 25. I had no idea what to talk about with her. I ended up just asking stupid stuff like, “what’s your credit score? How was PE? Why do you need to lie about your age?” Worse yet, she had no witty answers so I left.
