Fresh graduates are taking longer to secure their first full-time jobs compared with a few years ago, said Acting Minister for Manpower Jasmin Lau.  Speaking in Parliament on Oct. 6, 2026, Lau said this reflected softer hiring conditions in some sectors. She was responding to parliamentary and supplementary questions on retrenched workers, support for mature workers, and the employment rates of fresh graduates. The government is monitoring the situation closely, particularly for the 2026 graduating cohort she said, adding that their 6-month employment outcomes would be revealed soon. For fresh graduates who are struggling to find jobs, Lau highlighted the Graduate Industry Traineeships (GRIT) Programme, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Skills & Workforce Development Agency (SWDA).
