On April 19, 2024, West Long Branch police officers responded to assist a 50-year-old woman whose vehicle had become disabled in the middle of traffic lanes. When Officer Osborn arrived, she noticed that the driver had slurred speech and her movements were slow. However, the police report indicates that Officer Osborn did not detect the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Due to the fact that they were in the middle of traffic, a decision was made to detain the woman and transport her to the police station for field sobriety testing. At the conclusion of the testing, the woman was escorted into the booking area, where she agreed to submit to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.00% BAC. A drug recognition expert was called and he performed a 45-minute long consensual evaluation. He determined that the woman was under the influence of a central nervous system depressant and that a blood draw should be performed at the hospital. The woman was transported to the hospital, where she consented to a blood draw. She was subsequently released to a friend, but not before receiving 5 citations. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
