@howtohelpyourparentsdie: “Found out my dad didn’t have a UTI this morning and it made me want to cry,” is one of so many sentences I never thought I would say. Watching a parent unravel from dementia is a startling journey. #dyingparents #grief #caregiving #parkinsons
My dad has Parkinson’s. He was behaving very differently, depressed, threatening to go on hunger strikes, wanted to not live anymore. Had dementia all of a sudden. It came on fast. Checked for UTI. Negative. Was definitely dehydrated though. We got him

My mom was just diagnosed with dementia. It’s already harder than I thought it would be.

I feel this. My mom is in memory care and suddenly got paranoid and even hit staff. Was also hoping it was a UTI. It was not. I sobbed to a friend - I miss my mom so much. Grieving while they are alive is an intense journey

Unfortunately, we sometimes lose our parents way before they really leave us. This is so painful, you are a great daughter, do not forget this

I know the feeling. A diagnosis like a UTI is doable. A result of no infection just mean another saga of solving a mystery issue begins. Great points and thanks. I appreciate these videos.

I would highly recommend finding a local support group. I’m a belligerently independent person and took care of both parents for 13 years. It was my saving grace to bitch with ppl who were also in the thick.

Oh, Megan! I am so sorry. I am walking a similar path. Father has stage 4 lung cancer. Has been fighting since 2020. Since Sunday, he has lost his mobility, speech, understanding, motor skills, and confuses people. This happened soooo much faster than anyone expected. Hospice has started a Care Plan for him. As a social worker, I am sure you know what that means. I will say your name every time I pray. Hang in there! ❤️

I relate to you so much! My father had Parkinson’s and my mom just had surgery and now is in full blow dementia! My husband and I are there primary care givers! Everyday has been a challenge. I have no one that can relate to me as I’m only 46 and dealing with this.

I care for my mom; she has aggressive late onset Parkinson’s. It’s just awful. Grief by a thousand cuts- yes.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and am also so grateful for your posts. The familiarity with this terrain is comforting as I go through it, too. This may sound trite, but stay hydrated. Your dad, too! Courage 💙

I can relate. My husband is in his 14th year with Parkinson’s. Moods and physical abilities will change on a dime. “Episodes” will appear out of nowhere. Fortunately for me, hubby rarely gets testy. My good wishes are with you.

This is raw real and your feelings are valid. I have had these feeling during my tenure as a caregiver of an aging parent - now I am an adult orphan. Life was so much easier and more blissful before all of this. This is truly adulting - trying to find solutions to problems that can’t be solved for our loved ones is a journey that rips your heart out and wears so deeply on you. Be sure you take care of you and know the doubts that creep in about this journey’s path and the doubts about your reactions to it are valid and normal and you will get to the other side. You are giving your best to this terrible situation. I wish you and your parents peace.

We just went through a very similar diagnosis last week. Thought for sure it was a UTI. He’s far into dementia. Turns out an infection elsewhere. So hard to figure out when his brain is struggling.

Did you start him on a new medication called seraquel? My mom started on that for behavioral change and made it worse behavior and so I had her go off that and she’s much better. Just a thought
