@valuecontentafrica: How can Africa be sitting on wealth beneath her feet, yet too often, remain poor above the ground? Our minerals have become objects of geopolitical competition, secretive deals, illegal extraction, contested mining rights and, in some places, fuel for conflict. The deeper tragedy is not even that others want what we have, it is that we have not built enough capacity to determine what our resources should become. We dig out lithium and export it. We mine cobalt and export it. We extract gold and ship it elsewhere. We produce crude and import refined products. Resources keep leaving he continent, while value is being added somewhere else. Industries are built somewhere else. Wealth compounds somewhere else. Then we wonder why the wealth keeps passing through our hands without transforming our societies. What happens to refining, processing, manufacturing etc cetera What stops us from creating technology, jobs, industries and businesses built around what we have.
