When I tell that to my fellow Hispanics who are republicans/maga I always find it embarrassing, for them, when I’m somehow the asshole for telling the truth… like gadam you wanted to assimilate by being bigot?.. at best they’ll use you while you’re useful token but as soon as you’re not they have no problem with you getting deported to whatever country

‘Assimilation’ is an ever moving goal post. They mean it too look and act like them, but the reality is that is you can survive in and navigate the society you live in - you have assimilated, it doesn’t matter what you wear or how you look.

The Romans did this exact same thing to the Gaulic people and later the gothic people. When the military conquered their land and the Gauls/goths participated in Roman culture, wore their clothes, spoke their language, the Romans STILL hated them, ostracized them, and vilified them. It did not matter to them that they were all largely attempting to integrate into Roman culture. Because at the heart of Roman culture is prejudice and violence. America has the same core principles. History is rhyming fellas, what are WE gonna do about it ???
