@goatcult.media: On September 2, 2025, police in Pekin, Illinois found 80-year-old Cheryl Pate critically injured beside a vehicle. Her husband, 93-year-old James Pate, was still at the scene and allegedly admitted to officers that he had attacked her. Cheryl was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries. According to court records, James told investigators the couple had been discussing divorce and that he had built up anger and “couldn’t take it anymore.” He claimed they argued inside the vehicle before he retrieved a knife from the center console. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of first-degree murder. James never faced trial. His health deteriorated while the case was pending, and he later died after contracting Legionnaires’ disease.
