Anonymous Gardener :
Is this why you are named Douglas?

there's a lot of conversation about houses built in the 17/1800's versus today because we don't have as good/strong of lumber anymore - something about old growth being more dense, too?

I make soap and even the cheapest oil is super expensive. instead of mostly olive and coconut I've been having to use more soy and rice bran

it wasn't a lumber place but I grew up in Flagstaff AZ and it has the world's largest ponderosa pine forest. 🤷🏻♀️

I need a tree farm where we don't touch my trees until I'm about to die and need to fund my nursing home 😂

Both of my parents worked at a mill in Oregon when I grew up! I love the smell of sawdust, it reminds me of how their clothes smelled when they would get home.

Whew! You scared me for a second. I'm building a deck with pine. Glad to hear it will hold up. Also, happy to hear that the "non-conformity" of it is natural. Give myself a sliver of grace for being a tiny bit wonky. Not noticeable to others but "I" know it's there

So much worse than it was in the first 4 years where it was more focused on certain industries. It's become harder and harder to find good quality wood and now the crappy wood is priced around the same as the good used to be.

Also… just learning my house must be built out of yellow pine. The walls aren’t straight, but not falling down 😂
