I bought a lifetime of Sirius satellite radio for $500 in 2004 when they were competing with XM Radio. I'm still bumping Sirius in the same car with the same radio today. Cost me less than $2 a month so far.

That’s kind of what rocket money does… lol I started at $9 and when I tried to cancel they said they could reduce to $6. So I did… and I just recently went to cancel again and then reduced it to $3… 🙃😅 so I just kept it. Lmfao

we are slowly backtracking to the point of getting back to single purchase products again. Right now, this methodology already has a named practice, it's called payment installments. That's when the price of a product is so high that you pay for it in fractions overtime of its total price tag until it is fully paid off. If it gets cheaper with every renew, eventually, the product will become free. And that means you basically fully purchased the product.

Why do companies (cell, internet, cable) do the opposite, low entry creep up, call to cancel - BAM low rate?!?!

you should cancel every subscription. they will immediately offer you a discount. I went to cancel Stars! and they were like "hey dont go, we'll do $10 a month!" I said no. they said "ok, how about $6 a month?" I said no. they said "ok last offer, $3 a month!". I still said no, but it made me go through and cancel everything, and keep the ones I actually wanted for half the price

What if they just make a subscription where the price is based off of luck. For example, max price is 30$, you have a 20% chance of getting that. 25$ it’s a 23% chance, 10$ chance being 10% and so on. You can roll a new cost every time your current subscription ends.

Ppl stay subscribed to continue guaranteed access. What happens when customers stay long enough to hit zero, the incentive would have to be large enough to justify the mindset you explained but creates a paradox. Now you must provide the same offer with lower and lower reoccurring revenue. New customers are 10x as expensive as repeat customers therefore placing you the business at a disadvantage based on your own framework. That is unless you figure out how to get a majority of your customers to unsubscribe just to resubscribe 💀

Companies don’t need incentives when they can just ramp up switching costs and force customers to stay

Investors would hate this. They need the number to go up forever. This would make number go down over time.
