First things first, this isn't about one person. We are using discernment and critical thinking to understand why this is as impactful as it is. The part that is so deliciously satisfying for me is that old yt men thought they were so powerful and untouchable that they had someone backed to a corner. You can just picture it: him calling up all his gross minions and them cackling about how easily they can use their money/power to force their will on others. They didn't think it would go down like this because, historically, IT HASN'T. That's the thing I want people to hold on to. It's not about ONE person doing the heroic thing. It's an example of what WE are capable of. It is the solidarity that scares them. They expected it to go the way it always has - they decide and we accept it. The idea of "hero" and "villain/monster" puts things in a place where we feel like it's out of our reach. That's the point. "You can't do it, so don't try". But what Macklemore did (beautifully) was shine a light on what soooo many others have BEEN doing & saying. The thing that you are loudly applauding him for IS THE THING THAT WE CAN DO. As in the macro, so in the micro. It's not about one person. It's a reminder for all of us. A reminder that their power is a construct that only holds if we believe and act as if it does. They need our complicity for this to work. What you all saw, the thing that really energized you, was seeing the crack in the facade. Seeing that what they call power is just smoke and mirrors.
