he's a loose canon. he's extremely powerful but not loyal. especially after Sinestro. we saw a glimpse of what he was like before Sinestro, the Halogram, but after, it's like he became disillusioned with the Corp and no longer believes in the oath. the guardians see John as a soldier, a tool, because he's obedient and follows orders to a ridiculous degree. he sat in a chair and stayed there for almost a full day because he was told to "have a seat" and stayed on mission for 9 months straight without any support or supplies. he fully trusts the chain of command but not anymore

They think Hal is a poisoned asset because of his connection to Sinestro, who killed a guardian and still wasn’t powerful enough to kill Hal. So you have your most powerful soldier now openly skeptical of your intentions/authority who could also go rogue. They’re scared and posturing as logical.

The guardians see Hal as Sinestro 2.0. Someone who is beyond good at their job potentially the best, but cannot be controlled. Add onto the fact that he has appeared to have become very jaded to the corp as well as the guardians.

There's a comic where you learn the average life expectancy of a Lantern is like 4.5 years. So he's lived the life 10x as long as they usually do, he's not just strong of will but willful. The guardians suck, they suck pretty hard.

i feel like the show hasn't done that good of a job to set up hal jordan as this deserving of fear from the guardians. he's done good police work but his constructs are bare bones, he doesn't charge his ring, he failed to protect much of the city, etc

I swear to GOD, people can’t see the connection between this and how the military actually is. The writers are not shitting on Hal, this is deeply connected to how the military treats its veterans (and if you’re saying that’s a stretch, this the same series that follows John, the ONLY green lantern with military background seeped deep into his character). Hal is a soldier who is great at his job, but the higher ups hate him, literally using him and then when it becomes inconvenient throws him away. Hal is fighting for his position because like most veterans that’s all he has left, he can’t return to being a normal person since he’s spent so much of his life DOING THIS JOB. That’s why it’s so strong of a message that the man who was raised and indoctrinated into being a military man and a potential lantern, leaves both behind to be his own person

I've seen a lot of ppl think the guardians are good they really not they're emotionless and that usually means they're doing something bad
