Ok no. Lol look I didn’t put on dawn of the dead and say “this wasn’t a good resident evil movie.” If you are going to use the title of the franchise there are certain expectations that come with it. Themes and tone are 2 of those expectations. No one is looking at hot fuzz and going “it’s a good movie but a wasn’t a good “bad boys.” So saying resident evil 2026 is a good movie but a bad resident evil movie is totally valid

That's not, that's not what's going on. In my opinion, it is resident. Evil is a fan favorite of a lot of people, and they were expecting to see a adaptation of the movie with the characters they love, and they grew up on. That's simple. I don't know why. It's so hard and why people are upset about the fact that people want that. It's like if you were to make a movie called mortal kombat. And then replace all of the mortal kombat characters with someone else. People would be p***** off and that's what happened in this movie. The movie looks awesome. I hear great reviews, but people want to see characters. They grew up with what's so wrong with that

My question to all these diehard fans is are new comic runs adaptations of previous runs or are they their own standalone story? Example are the absolute comics their own things or are they just adaptations of previous comics? If they are their own standalone story why can’t tv shows/movies be that?

These so called fans are not fans. Do fans complain when they get another addition to there franchise to have fun with? Do fans complain when this is the best green lantern media we have ever gotten? No because they arent fans, they think they are but aren't. You cant be a RE fan if u haven't even played 1 or some of the OG

Longtime Green Lantern fan here. I think the show is great. The Green Lantern mythos is very deep and I appreciate a show that showcases the character and doesn’t just throw everything at you at once. My wife who has zero knowledge of the characters is really enjoying it and I don’t have to stop the episodes to explain things to her. That exactly what it should be and one of the places where the Ryan Reynolds movie falls short.

I disagree. I think more people would be even more pissed if Lanterns was about some random characters not featured in the comics. Slightly altering the lore to fit a new medium is fine in my eyes at least. I'm really enjoying Lanterns. For Resident Evil, I feel we have never seen any of the characters from the games truly represented. I'm pretty sure Project Hail Mary would have pissed people off if it wasn't about Grace or Rocky, but a new character not in the books, not doing anything from the book. But thats just my opinion.

No, people especially fans can have opinions. They are the ones who made franchise. RE movie was great , but it lacked a lot of elements of the game. People can have opinions. Lanterns sucks btw

The Resident Evil “fans” have clearly never played the RE:Outbreak games. Those didn’t have any of the main RE protagonists. It was about normal civilians experiencing the outbreak. Just like the new movie. And it’s a damn good movie too!!!!

The difference is- the creators of Lanterns literally said they think Green Lanterns is stupid so they basically took True Detective formula and created a grounded story, to get around all of the comic book elements. Zach has never said he thought RE was stupid, he loves RE and use the tactics of the games and he uses the lore, much more than Lanterns uses it lore. These two points are very different.

I think as fans it’s easy for us to fall into the trap of wanting people to see a character the way we did and fall in love with them for the same reasons we did. Even if it’s subconsciously, it’s a desire to be a part of something validates the idea that our version is the right or good one but that ignores that our version we fell in love with is also another in a long line of different versions of the character that other people fell in love with. Those other versions don’t invalidate what you love about the character (unless what you loved was based in bigotry or harmful social norms). We’re all fans and we shouldn’t put up barriers where they shouldn’t be.

The issue with Lanterns is that it feels like it’s going back to that classic mentality of the only good way a live action superhero project can be good is if it’s hyper realistic and gritty. Yes it’s good that they still include the space and aliens, but even then it’s severely restricted in what they do with them.

I get both sides, I just think folks want to see a live action that’s accurate to comics or games before we veer to trying new things in live action adaptations if that makes sense. They want to see visualize stories that we’ve read or played with something live action or “real”. Loving lanterns btw just saying

I agree to an extent. I don’t ascribe to the idea that fans just want reheated nachos because the way I see it, we NEVER get 1:1 adaptations! Itd be one thing if every Batman movie was a shot for shot adaptation of the Long Halloween and then someone comes out and does their own thing with it for once and people complain. OK, yeah! Sure! That’s not wanting innovation! But EVERY time a comic book movie is made, what do you hear? “well this is OUR SPIN on the character”, “ this is our reinvention”, “this is our reimagining”, “this is our interpretation.” MF I don’t WANT or NEED YOUR reinvention of the mythos! If I love chicken parm, and I get just a classic chicken Parm everywhere I go, I won’t be bothered if every once in a while, there’s some avant-garde take on the dish where it’s deconstructed or given a spin or whatever. That’s novel, that’s fun. But if EVERY restaurant I go to gives me a chicken Parm but ‘this one doesn’t have chicken!’, ‘this one doesn’t have sauce!’’this one we put everything in a blender and made it a drink!’ I’m going to be frustrated that I never just get a straight up classic chicken Parm!! you know, the thing that I love!! It always reeks to me of Hollywood arrogance, that you have all these writers who think that they need to ‘elevate’ the source material by removing half the shit that fans have been clamoring to see, because yes, the stories that have been so well written that they’ve created some of the most ravenous fans of ANY medium surely wouldn’t also be excellents stories to see in motion on the screen, no no, we need Joe Whogivesashit to come and save it with their writing that’s surely better than hacks like Grant Morrison, or Alan Moore, or Geoff John’s! Look at the recent Knightfall movie that came out! That’s ripped almost 100% from the comics, and I have heard nothing but praise being thrown its way! Because what a shock! Cool af stories are even more cool af when you add movement and sound to them! It’s a magical experience when people see drawn stories they love come to life with real people! Who would’ve guessed?? It’s not reheated nachos if all we’ve ever had was the picture on the menu.

I think people would’ve been fine with resident evil if they at least made it fit within the world that was already set. There definitely seems to be some inconsistencies with the T virus and the zombies. Or whatever they are in the movie. I don’t mind because I’m just watching it as a movie and the last few resident evil games were awful anyway so it’s not like there’s really sanctuary at Capcom anymore.

If people made a Blade movie that didn't have Blade didn't have vampires unique to the Marvel comics, and was about a random person fighting against generic vampires you would be saying the same thing as RE fans.

The problem is that there needs to be reverence for established franchises with many things that came before. Audiences aren’t opposed to seeing something new, but they want all of the stuff they’ve invested in before to be respected and acknowledged in a way that makes their time not feel wasted. A director’s vision shouldn’t be at odds with that when they make something with an established franchise. Nothing wrong with people criticizing or being vocal about when that doesn’t happen.
