But you’re buying a home to return to every winter, not booking a weeklong vacation. Before you fall for the patio and the sunshine, here are five things I’d check: 1️⃣ When will you actually be here? A neighborhood that feels lively in January might feel very different in October or April. Think about the whole stretch of time you plan to spend here. 2️⃣ Do you want a 55+ community? Some people love having golf, classes, and a full social calendar right outside their door. Others would be much happier in an all-ages neighborhood. Neither is automatically the better choice. 3️⃣ What does a regular Tuesday look like? The pool is great, but you’ll also be buying groceries, finding your favorite lunch spot, and driving to the airport. The location has to work for your actual life. 4️⃣ Where would you go for healthcare? If you’re spending months here, look at the providers near the home and check how your health coverage works in Arizona. 5️⃣ What happens when you leave? Who checks on the house? Who handles the landscaping or pool? “Lock and leave” sounds wonderful, but I’d want to know exactly what it means for that home. I get why people fall in love with Arizona in the winter.
