@becoolandi: It’s an extra skill and extra labor. I get pulled from my current task to help others translate and I end up losing time focusing on other people’s work. I will always translate and help, but my extra efforts are never compensated. (I use sunglasses at the end of my shift cause I’m night shift and it blinds my eyes) #latinacontentcreator #hispanicheritagemonth #medsurg #nursing #

It’s so hard to say we’re not going to speak the language until we get paid for it, then you see your parents in a different person and hope that by helping them out, other people do the same thing and help your parents out.

And it makes me mad when my mom comes home and says they didn’t want to help her. Even though they knew Spanish. Now I go with her every time. Cause no way you gonna disrespect my mom!

I agree but disagree with not utilizing it unless we are paid. Ultimately the patient suffers

I agree we should be getting paid to translate, but we have to be the bigger person for the benefit of the patient and their families. God would want us to do that.

It’s so hard to not use it though😭. I took care of a resident who had Alzheimer’s and as his Alzheimer’s progressed he was forgetting how to speak English, he spoke Spanish and English was his second language. He eventually only spoke Spanish bc the disease made him forget his English completely…

I can talk about this all day. They’d pay a white man more in seconds. If I have to keep stepping away from making my money to help other employees translate so they can make their money and I’m getting paid the same is crazy.

Then that means they would have to pay every colleague that speaks a second language, there are over 500+ languages. Creole, French , Spanish & Portuguese being the most common...

Dont get me started, asked twice to be compensated and both times was told it’s not a requirement but a favor by being a team player🙄 only continue to do so for the families, not my “team”.

I quit a job bc the description did not mention that they were looking for a bilingual hire, therefore I didn’t even mention being bilingual in my interviews. I got hired and they pulled me aside for a Spanish speaking patient and forced me to translate by not giving me a choice. I translated once and then I went straight to the managers, asking to be paid for something that was never mentioned in the job description. I quit after that conversation.
