When my child was diagnosed with ADHD, it forever changed the way I parent. Before his diagnosis, there were so many moments I simply didn’t understand. I didn’t understand why he would get so upset when plans changed. I didn’t understand why choosing something as simple as what he wanted could take forever. I didn’t understand why he could suddenly become incredibly emotional over something that seemed so small to me. I didn’t understand why he could follow an instruction one day and seem completely unable to follow the exact same instruction the next. And if I’m being honest, sometimes I mistook those moments for defiance, stubbornness, or not listening. But his diagnosis gave me a different lens. It made me stop asking, “Why won’t you?” and start asking, “Why is this hard for you?” I’m still learning. I’m still figuring out what he needs and how to support him without making him feel like there’s something wrong with him. But I know this now: Understanding your child changes everything. Sometimes they don’t need more discipline. They need more understanding and tools to help them be successful! #adhd #kidswithadhd #adhdparenting
